About it
This is a compilation of illustrations created for Laboratorio en serio, a series of educational posts published on LinkedIn as part of the content and marketing strategy of Mycrospace, a deeptech startup in quality control microbiology. The series covers good laboratory practices, normative frameworks like ISO standards and accreditation, and didactic materials, all aimed at QC microbiology professionals and lab directors. The goal was to share useful, rigorous content with the community, building knowledge around everyday lab challenges without losing scientific accuracy.

The Challenge
Each article in the series tackles a different topic: contamination, variability, traceability, and manual counting limitations. Also, they were published weekly, and each one needed its own standalone image. The illustration had to capture the key point and feeling of the piece in a single recognisable frame, while keeping the whole series visually cohesive enough to work as a body of content under one brand.
The Process
I approached the series as an exercise in personal expression, working in my own style but shifting register depending on what each piece demanded: closer to realism in some cases, more dreamlike or expressive in others.
The constant was trying to convey the sensations behind the moments the articles describe, or the concepts underneath them, in a way that feels graphic, eye-catching, and visually rich. To get there, I leaned heavily on metaphors and unexpected combinations.
For example, a Petri dish becomes a football pitch crowded with colonies, some of them caught offside. It was a way of pointing to those conflicting cases where counting gets genuinely difficult. Other times the approach is more poetic: a vortex surrounded by clocks and plates to express the hidden costs of manual colony counting. Throughout, the science comes first. The illustration exists to make it approachable, memorable, and a little more fun.
